Generative AI policies
Generative AI Policy
This policy governs the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies by authors, reviewers, and editors in the publication process at JAIMLNN. This policy applies to the writing and editorial process and is separate from any AI methods used as part of the research itself.
- AI Use in Writing by Authors
Authors may use generative AI tools (such as large language models) to improve the readability, grammar, and clarity of their manuscripts. Such use must be disclosed in a statement at the end of the manuscript, before the References section, under the heading 'Declaration of Generative AI Use in Writing.' AI tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the submitted work.
Disclosure statement format: During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [TOOL NAME] in order to [PURPOSE, e.g., improve language clarity]. After using this tool, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take full responsibility for the publication's content.
- AI Use in Figures and Images
Generative AI tools must not be used to create, alter, enhance, or manipulate images, figures, or graphical abstracts in submitted manuscripts unless the AI tool is itself the subject of the research and its use is described in the Methods section. Routine image adjustments (brightness, contrast) are permitted provided they do not obscure information.
- AI Use by Peer Reviewers
Peer reviewers must not upload any part of a manuscript, including text, data, or figures, into any external AI tool. Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents. The scientific assessment, critical analysis, and recommendation in a review report must reflect the reviewer's own professional judgment. AI tools must not be used to generate or substantially draft review reports.
- AI Use by Editors
Editors must not upload any manuscript content, author communications, or review reports into external AI tools. Editorial decisions must be made by human editors exercising professional judgment. AI tools must not be used to generate decision letters or editorial correspondence.
- Policy Updates
JAIMLNN will review and update this policy as generative AI technologies and scholarly publishing norms evolve. Authors, reviewers, and editors are encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief with questions at editor.jaimlnn@gmail.com.
