Background: Mental health issues among adolescents have become a pressing global concern with significant implications for wellbeing and future outcomes, and India faces particular challenges given its large adolescent population. Objective: To examine the current state of adolescent mental health globally and in India, identify contributing factors and existing policy initiatives, and propose a comprehensive approach for addressing these issues. Methods: Narrative review of the global and Indian adolescent mental health landscape, synthesizing contributing factors, existing initiatives and policies, and evidence-informed strategies for improvement. Results: Adolescent mental health challenges in India were linked to inadequate awareness, limited access to services, and insufficient early intervention. Proposed strategies included mental health education in schools, expansion of accessible services (including telehealth), early screening programs, youth-friendly support spaces, training for parents and teachers, peer support networks, digital interventions, and policy advocacy addressing social determinants such as poverty and discrimination. Conclusion: Addressing adolescent mental health in India requires a comprehensive, collaborative approach spanning education, healthcare access, early intervention, and policy reform. Coordinated action among schools, families, healthcare providers, and policymakers is essential to secure a healthier future for adolescents.
