Abstract

Background: Mental health and behavioral challenges among students are closely interconnected and increasingly recognized as central to establishing an optimal learning environment, yet their interplay and implications for educators remain underexplored. Objective: To examine the relationship between mental health and behavior among students and to outline its implications for educators and educational institutions. Methods: Narrative review synthesizing existing literature on the characteristics of mentally healthy children, the manifestation of mental health in behavior, and educational strategies for early identification and support. Results: Mentally healthy children were characterized by self-confidence and emotional resilience, positive social interactions, effective stress management, and active learning engagement. Mental health and behavioral issues were found to be closely intertwined, with behavior often serving as an observable manifestation of underlying mental health status, though distinguishing between the two required careful assessment. Conclusion: Educational institutions can foster holistic student wellbeing through early identification of concerns, inclusive strategies, creation of psychologically safe spaces, and collaboration with mental health professionals. Integrating mental health awareness into educational practice is essential for supporting both behavior and learning outcomes.
