Abstract

Background: Getting transgenes where they need to go, into specific target cells, without messing things up, is still one of the biggest headaches in genetic factor research and analysis. Viral vectors have kind of become the go-to plan, because viruses already have this natural ability to invade host cells, and then slip in foreign genetic material. And since they’re being used more and more for lots of diseases, people have been pushing hard for solid testing frameworks, across every step of development and manufacturing, not just the last part. Objective: This article wants to look into and basically examine the different testing methods that show up during viral vector development, especially the identity side of things and the quality side, so that product safety, efficacy, plus regulatory compliance are actually covered in a real way. Methods: We did a review of viral vector testing approaches, basically zooming in on methods that are used across the whole development and manufacturing pipeline. The testing strategies we focused on include identity testing, to verify the vector characteristics, and quality testing, to check purity, potency, sterility, and other relevant aspect all in line with regulatory standards that are already established. Results: Viral vectors have shown meaningful promise as gene delivery systems. The review found that doing comprehensive testing at every phase of development and manufacturing is crucial, because it helps in spotting potential safety concerns early, maintaining batch consistency, and meeting the expectations set by regulatory bodies for gene therapy products. It’s not just “nice to have” testing either. Conclusion: In the end, thorough and systematic viral vector testing matters a lot for moving toward safe and effective gene therapies. Identity testing together with quality testing protocols work like foundational supports, helping ensure that viral vector-based treatments meet both scientific benchmarks and regulatory requirements before any clinical use.
